To be eligible for this role, candidates must fulfill the basic requirements as well as any additional criteria specified in the job announcement. Applicants who are in the process of completing training or licensing may be referred and tentatively selected, but hiring will only occur once all requirements are satisfied. Current physicians employed by the organization who met the qualifications at the time of their initial appointment are considered to have met the basic requirements for this position.
Basic Requirements:
-
U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with organizational policy.
-
Medical Degree: Must hold a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a school recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion.
-
Licensure: Must have a current, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth, or in the District of Columbia.
-

Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs who meet the basic requirements may be appointed as ‘Physician Resident Providers’ (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (not on a training license) and can only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. They are not considered independent practitioners and will not have privileges; their scope of practice will be limited to certain duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.
-
Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in both spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in Geriatrics, Hospice, Palliative Care, and Skilled Nursing Facilities/Long-Term Care.
