The Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the success of the branch in the near future. This is done primarily by managing resources (labor, equipment, and vehicles) and planning for the future. The Operations Manager is thinking strategically about the next 24 weeks of the business so that the Warehouse Manager has the needed resources to do each day’s work.
The employee in this role shares with the Warehouse Manager a production mindset that is focused on efficiently producing quality results using repeatable processes and systems. The Operations Manager also has a managerial mentality. This allows him/her to evaluate the cost and benefit of certain courses of action, think strategically, plan for the future, develop talent, and maintain positive morale among the staff.
As the second in command, the Operations Manager shares with the General Manager responsibilities such as employee safety, security of the facility, and escalated HR issues. The Operations Manager may also work with the General Manager on issues related to internal development of the branch, such as hiring staff, developing processes, and training employees.
The branch counts on the experience and expertise of the Operations Manager to spot future problems and resolve them quickly. The Operations Manager is always looking into the future to ensure the business runs as smoothly as possible. S/he takes a high level of ownership of every facet of the Rentex branch and believes “the buck stops here.”
The employee in this role manages the Warehouse Manager, the department leaders, and any coordinators. S/he coaches and develops these employees as they lead and develop the rest of the operations staff.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manage the daily work of our rental warehouse.
- Ensure all gear is properly pulled and loaded for each show.
- Assist with order pulls and truck loads/unloads.
- Coordinate personnel schedules to meet business demands.
- Forecast and anticipate upcoming business demands on a 30, 60- and 90-day basis.
- Provide management, supervision, and leadership of 50 + employees.
- Assist in conducting annual employee reviews and discipline.
- Assist in hiring efforts to include recruitment, interviews, and onboarding.
- Comply with company policies and procedures.
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures to increase workplace efficiency.
- Possess working knowledge/experience in staging setup and operational logistics.
- Stay current on new technology and industry trends.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously under strict deadlines.
- Assist or manage other projects as needed.
- Coordinate with sales representatives and other operational staff on order fulfillment and returns.
- Demonstrate and support a safe working environment.
- Work some weekends and after-hours as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position may supervise 50+ employees. This includes providing daily direction on work, holding individuals accountable for their specific results, and developing the skills of operations employees. The Operations Manager is ultimately responsible for hiring, performance reviews, discipline, and termination of employees.
Work Environment
This job operates in a warehouse environment.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to work with objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs. The employee must occasionally lift or move objects up to 50 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a fulltime position. Days and hours of work are subject to change and may rotate. Needs of the business may dictate long hours and weekend work during high demand periods.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from high school or a GED
- Possess at least five (5) years of experience in AV, rental, or event production.
- Demonstrated supervisory/management experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Excellent time management and macro view of workflow
- Ability to follow process and direct others.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Experience with MS Navision Inventory system
- Prior experience with SharePoint
