The Controls Systems Technician III is a senior-level technician responsible for advanced installation, programming, and troubleshooting of building automation and HVAC control systems. This role provides technical leadership in the field, supports commissioning, and ensures all systems meet design and customer requirements.
Responsibilities

Install, program, and commission BAS/DDC systems, including controllers, sensors, actuators, and network components.

Troubleshoot complex control system, software, and mechanical integration issues.

Calibrate and configure control devices (temperature, pressure, flow, etc.).

Lead and mentor junior technicians; ensure safety and quality standards.

Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and mechanical plans.

Configure system graphics, logic, and communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, TCP/IP).

Work with engineering and project management to verify design intent.

Perform functional testing, point-to-point checks, and system commissioning.

Produce documentation, reports, and as-built drawings.

Maintain OSHA, NEC, and company safety compliance.

Communicate directly with customers to resolve issues and provide support.
Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.

Associate degree or technical certification in HVAC Controls, Electrical Technology, or Building Automation preferred.

5+ years of experience with commercial or industrial BAS/HVAC control systems.

Expert knowledge of BAS equipment, HVAC controls, and electrical-mechanical integration.

Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.

Experience with Tridium Niagara, Metasys, Siemens, Honeywell, or similar platforms.

Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring abilities.

Ability to work independently in field environments.
Certifications & Licenses

OSHA 30 required.

EPA Universal Certification preferred.

BAS platform certifications (Tridium, Siemens, Honeywell, etc.) preferred.

Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
-
Work performed at commercial and industrial sites, rooftops, mechanical rooms, and control panels.

Exposure to varying temperatures, confined spaces, heights, and electrical components.

Frequent interaction with HVAC, electrical, and plumbing trades.

Must be able to stand, walk, climb, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Must be able to work from ladders, lifts, and scaffolding.

PPE required at all times.
