Job Description: Preschool Teacher
Under the guidance of the Preschool Director, the Preschool Teacher plays a key role in creating and sustaining a high-quality, developmentally appropriate learning environment. The EDCJCC Preschool embraces a play-based, constructivist-inspired approach, celebrates Jewish holidays, and centers Jewish values throughout the curriculum. Working in close partnership with the Lead Teacher, the Assistant Teacher supports children’s social-emotional, cognitive, and physical growth through intentional play, nurturing relationships, and a warm, inclusive classroom community.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum & Instruction
• Support the Lead Teacher in implementing weekly lesson plans and daily classroom activities
• Lead small-group experiences assigned and contribute to curriculum planning discussions
• Help cultivate an inclusive, joyful classroom community grounded in Jewish values
• Assist with documentation, classroom displays, and showcasing children’s work under the Lead Teacher’s direction
• Engage meaningfully with children during play, routines, and learning experiences
Classroom Environment & Daily Operations
• Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment
• Participate in daily cleaning, sanitizing, and restocking of materials and supplies
• Assist with managing classroom materials, décor, and learning areas
• Monitor and support children during transitions, meals, rest time, and outdoor play
Family Engagement
• Share observations and relevant classroom anecdotes with the Lead Teacher to support family communication and conferences
• Respond to families in alignment with Lead Teacher guidance and program communication protocols
Professional Expectations
• Model respectful, positive, and professional interactions with children, families, and colleagues
• Participate actively in professional development sessions, staff meetings, and planning time
• Maintain open communication and a strong understanding of classroom expectations, schedules, and program policies
Preferred Qualifications
Education
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• CDA or college coursework in Early Childhood Education strongly preferred
Experience
• Prior experience working with young children in a preschool, early learning, or childcare setting
Certifications
• Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire
