The Nurse Manager provides oversight and supervision of nursing care in Health Services, consistent with professional standards, College protocols and regulatory requirements. Provides direct age appropriate and culturally sensitive professional nursing care for a variety of acute and chronic conditions and injuries in an inclusive, collaborative, and integrated Center for Health and Wellness.
This is a full time, benefits eligible salaried position with a hiring range of $74,958 - $93,698 per year.
Core Responsibilities:
- Receives, triages, and assigns appropriate level of care to all incoming clinical phone calls to Health Services based on clinical assessment including the provision of self-care instructions based on presenting symptoms in accordance with Health Services, state, and federal protocols when appropriate
- Uses physical assessment skills during in-person appointments to independently evaluate a student complaint, making recommendations for self care, further evaluation by MD/NP or for urgent care outside of health services. Recognizes and immediately intervenes in emergent situations such as acute traumatic injury, cardiac arrest and anaphylaxis, in accordance with Health Services protocols
- Administers medications, vaccines, and allergy immunotherapy injections with full understanding of appropriate dose, preparation, route of administration, and potential adverse effects
- Provides oversight for nurse triage line, nursing visits, clinical scheduling, clinical supplies, immunization protocols and compliance, and preventative maintenance program for equipment
- Ensures appropriate recruitment, training, supervision, development, and evaluation of registered nurses (2) and medical assistants (2), including any trainees or students
- Ensures compliance with regulatory standards including Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and Vermont Immunization requirements.
- Provides oversight of clinical supply ordering/management and completes timely documentation in the EHR according to best practices and Health Services policies
- Communicates professionally and effectively with students, colleagues, CHR Directors and collaborating providers
Requirements
- Commitment to multicultural approaches to clinical care
- Commitment to addressing intersections of multiple identities and their related health outcomes Successful collaborator with cross-discipline colleagues to support positive outcomes
- Knowledge of the social, psychological, and physical developmental stages of college students
- CPR and First Aid certification
- 4 years of experience in primary care, urgent care, or similar including program and/or staff supervision
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing required with current, or eligible to obtain, Vermont State RN license
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Potential exposure to communicable diseases. May need to help patient onto and off exam table. Functions in a fast-paced clinical environment. Able to provide care occasionally into the evening or on weekends, to support student outreach activities, for continuity of care and in management of an acute crisis. Cross-campus and cross-town travel may be required
