A rewarding opportunity is available for an experienced Registered Nurse specializing in Step-down care, with a focus on cardiology. This contract position is based in Winston-Salem, NC, at a large teaching medical center known for its Level 1 Trauma Designation, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center certifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized nursing care in a 28-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with an average census of 26 patients.
  • Manage patients recovering from acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, NSTEMI/STEMI, and post-cardiac catheterization procedures.
  • Administer cardiac rhythm interpretation and titrate complex infusions, including but not limited to Argatroban, Dobutamine, Milrinone, and Insulin.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including CNAs, hospitalists, intensivists, and emergency respiratory therapists.
  • Utilize advanced hospital technology including Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors.
  • Participate in unit safety rounds and assist with direct patient care activities along with the support staff.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in cardiology or acute care nursing. First-time travelers are welcome.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
  • Proficient in cardiac rhythm interpretation and titration of multiple vasoactive drips.
  • Ability to work under a nurse-to-patient ratio of approximately 1:4-5 and supervise CNA support.
