Summary:
Vighter is recruiting Dental Assistants to assist in the provision of patient care operations Naval Dental Facilities in and around San Diego, CA. The Dental Assistant supports dental clinic operations by preparing equipment, assisting during procedures, and ensuring adherence to infection prevention and safety protocols.

Principle Accountabilities:
- Administrative support to ensure efficient dental laboratory operations including case intake, documentation, data management, and coordination of case progress supporting fabrication of dental laboratory cases.
- Coordination of cases being outsourced to military and civilian labs.
- Customer service representative for communication with dentists regarding case progress, updates, and due dates.
- Organizing data related to laboratory case completion including anticipated lead times.
- Performs duties in aiding in one or more phases of complex/difficult restorative, prosthodontic, oral surgical, endodontic, or periodontal treatment. Receives and schedules patients for treatment.
- Obtains and records related medical history of patient. Charts examination and treatment information. Records information on prescriptions.
- Sterilizes instruments, materials, and equipment; prepares surgical trays. Maintains dental equipment in a clean and operative condition.
- Assists dentist at chair side. Performs intra-oral procedures as directed by dentist. Takes preliminary impressions for study models, removes sutures, places and removes rubber dams, perio-packs, matrix bands, and wedges.
- Relays dentist’s instructions to patient for post-treatment care.
- Instructs patient in proper dental techniques, care of appliances, and causes of dental decay.
- Operates dental X-ray equipment to take intra and extra oral radiographs. Maintains, cleans, and performs minor repairs on X-ray equipment and materials.
- Pours and trims models from impressions and constructs custom impression trays.
- Maintains a variety of recurring reports related to dental activities

- Knowledge of regulations (HIPAA/Privacy Act) regarding the confidentiality of patient medical records and information as well as Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
- Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Must have exceptional customer service skills.
- Employees shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the job requirements, including ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment with limited supervision
- Excellent organizational, scheduling and prioritization skills.
Qualifications:
• Experience in dental laboratory, prosthodontics, or general dentistry practice
• Completion of a 2-year CODA-accredited program or a 4-year bachelor's degree.
• Certification: Becoming a Certified Dental Technician (CDT) through the National Board for Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology.
• Specialization: Training in CAD/CAM technology, ceramics, or orthodontics.
Duty Hours / On-call Requirements:
- The expected duty hours for this position are 8 hours per day and 5 days per week. However, this position supports 24/7 operations which may require work to be conducted at night and on weekends.

Travel:
- As required to satisfy the contractual obligations. Commuting is non-compensatory. All official travel is government funded.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to sit for more than 8 hours per day.
- Must be willing to work overtime if necessary.
- Must be able to use an elevator or walk up and down stairs.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. and carry up to 10 feet.
- Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders.
- Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print.
- Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
- Must be able to perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation.
- Must undergo Urine Drug Screening (UDS).
- Must be a Citizen of the United States or legally authorized to work in the United States of America.

Work Schedule: Services Shall be provided Monday through Friday, between the hours of 0630 – 1500 hours. Shifts are provided between Monday through Friday and will be scheduled for 8-hour period, not including an uncompensated 30-minute lunch break. In no instance will HCW be required to provide services more than 80 hours per two-week period.
