Join Our Team as a Violin Teacher at Community Music School!
Community Music School (CMS) has an immediate opening for an experienced and passionate voice teacher to join our dedicated faculty! If you love inspiring students of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, we want to hear from you.
Position Details:
- Location: 1544 Hamilton Street, Allentown, PA 18102
- Position Type: Part-time, hourly (nonexempt)
- Schedule: Flexible weekday afternoons/evenings, with occasional weekend mornings/afternoons for recitals and makeup lessons. Up to 15-20 hours per week with the potential to increase based on student demand.
- Pay: Starting at $32–$35 per hour, based on education and experience
What You’ll Do:
- Provide quality instruction in a positive and professional learning environment in the following instruments at an advanced level: violin (required), cello, double bass, and viola (preferred)
- Develop and implement an individualized curriculum to inspire students to succeed and develop as well-rounded musicians, performers, and learners.
- Work at a variety of levels teaching different musical skills to individuals or groups of all ages
- Teach instrumental techniques, scales, sight-reading, music theory, and self-expression through music
- Prepare students for evaluations, auditions, and recitals, including coordinating accompaniment.
- Communicate clearly and promptly with students, parents, and CMS staff.
- Attend regular faculty meetings and maintain clear communications with students, parents, and administration via phone, email, and online scheduling and billing system
- Complete annual student progress evaluations
- Complete post-interview lesson evaluation forms for private students
- Additional opportunities include (as needed/available, with advance notice): community performances, group classes, performing ensembles, and/or summer camps.
What We’re Looking For:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Vocal Performance, or a related field (advanced degrees preferred but not required).
- Experience: At least 1 year of teaching in a similar setting.
- Skills:
- Strong vocal pedagogy and performance background.
- Ability to teach a diverse student base, including different learning styles and abilities.
- Basic tech skills (Google Suite, online portals, email communication).
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaborative abilities.
- Ability to take direction and maintain communication with other faculty and staff as needed.
- Professional conduct and composure, and an enthusiastic and positive attitude.
- Bonus Skills: Spanish language proficiency and the ability to accompany students on piano.
Required Clearances: In accordance with PA Act 153, CMS requires that all employees have or obtain PA-required child protection clearances and complete mandated reporter training. All required clearances and training must be current (within the last 5 years). Learn more at Keep Kids Safe PA.

Work Environment:
- Teaching is conducted in one of several private-sized music studios within a secure facility that includes a reception area and administrative staff.
- Exposure to varying levels of musical noise from surrounding studios.
- Standard office sounds such as phones and in-person conversations.
- Some studios may have windows with natural light, while others rely on overhead lighting.
Physical Requirements:
- Teach for extended periods while standing or sitting, with breaks as needed.
- Demonstrate vocal techniques and coaching at the piano.
- Communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and via email.
