Job DescriptionTitle: CNC TechnicianLocation: Winston Salem, NC– 100% OnsiteDuration and hire type: Direct HireOverview: Sterling Engineering/Staffing is currently looking for a CNC Technician for one of our clients in the Winston Salem, NC area. Shift: 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM, Monday through Friday, some OT (5 hours)Hourly Rate: $26/hr and Up based on Experience

Job DescriptionResponsible for programming and operating CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machinery. This process is used to run many different types of machinery, including shapers, hobbs, grinders, lathes, mills and routers. This machinery cuts, drills, grinds and shapes a variety of materials, from metal to plastic.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with safety policies
  • Program CNC machines to perform the task needed and monitor work to ensure compliance
    • This is to include setting and adjusting mills and lathes, hobbs and shapers, setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, conditional switches, and calculating requirements
  • Train others on the proper set and operation of machines in a safe and efficient manner
  • Operate multiple machines simultaneously as assigned
  • Maintain specifications and make adjustments as needed by observing, drilling, grooving and cutting, including turning, facing, tapping, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance
  • Troubleshoot programs, issues and perform routine and minor maintenance
    • Submit work orders for the maintenance requirements
  • Read blueprints or job orders to determine product specifications, process specifications, and tooling instructions
  • Follows reporting and recordkeeping procedures, and report problems to supervisor or lead
  • Works with QA and Engineering for problem solving initiatives
  • Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to management
  • Use precision gauges and instruments such as micrometers to determine and follow customers’ and product specifications

Education and Training:

  • Specific site qualifications and progression may apply, consult with local team
  • 5+ Years of CNC Operator experience or Technical Degree

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience working in a continuous improvement culture of Lean manufacturing and 6S
  • Prior experience using precision instruments and gauges
  • Basic computer skills
  • Mechanical and technical aptitude and capacity
  • Design/Programming knowledge with NX, Macros, ESPIRIT CAD CAM software, SOLIDWORKS & JETCAM is a plus
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems, ISO 9001
  • Knowledge of CNC program code
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, bills of materials, and inspection documents to machine parts
