We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented Controller to oversee the daily operations of our accounting team.
Position Overview
The Controller will play a critical role in the financial management of the organization, reporting directly to the CFO. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting functions, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing strategic financial insights to support the organization's growth and operational efficiency in multifamily construction projects.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Controller or in a similar role within the construction industry, with afocus on multifamily projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, practices, and software (e.g., ERP System, Netsuite, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex financial information and provide strategic insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to the VP of Finance and executive team. Analyze financial performance against budgets and forecasts, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting efforts, collaborating with project managers and department heads. Monitor variances and communicate financial performance to relevant stakeholders.
- Accounting Operations: Oversee and manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions. Ensure accurate and timely processing of financial transactions and compliance with accounting standards.
- Project Financial Management: Work closely with project managers to track project budgets, costs, and profitability for multifamily developments. Analyze project financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Compliance and Audit: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including tax laws and construction-specific financial regulations. Assist with internal and external audits, preparing necessary documentation and addressing audit findings.
- Financial Controls: Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to enhance internal controls and improve operational efficiency. Conduct regular reviews of financial processes to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and support for professional development. Foster a collaborative and results-driven work environment within the finance team.
- Strategic Support: Provide financial analysis and insights to the VP of Finance for strategic decision-making and long-term planning. Participate in management meetings, contributing to discussions on financial strategy and performance.
