Job Description

This position is responsible for operating carpentry equipment to assist in building parts of interior and exterior of ships, and shipyard buildings at our vast, 63-acre facility. The role involves reading blueprints, measuring and cutting materials, assembling components, and operating carpentry tools and equipment to support ship construction, repair, and dock operations.

Detailed Description

  • Follow instructions under intermittent supervision and review blueprints/specifications to determine work requirements.
  • Measure, mark, cut, and install wood components for ship and building structures.
  • Operate carpentry tools/equipment and assist with docking and undocking vessels.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues and ensure proper storage and handling of all tools.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks as needed while adhering to all safety, quality, and environmental policies.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and work energetically in a waterfront environment while following organizational procedures.



Physical Requirements

  • Lift, carry, push, and pull tools and materials weighing 10--50 lbs over distances up to 150'.
  • Use wrenches, bars, ropes, and impact tools requiring up to 110 lbs of pushing force and placing items at heights of 33"--57".
  • Handle air hose/rope reels and other materials by lifting 15--25 lbs while walking, squatting, and reaching.
  • Perform rope-pulling, sledgehammer work, and other tasks requiring sustained upper-body effort.
  • Manipulate small parts using fine motor skills while bending, walking, and working at low levels.
  • Work in confined spaces, at heights, climb ladders/stairs, and in varying conditions.

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be a U.S. Person.
  • Must be able to work at heights.
  • Must be able to work in confined and enclosed spaces.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must have knowledge of construction materials/methods and basic blueprint reading.
  • Must be a self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments.


Education/Experience

  • Minimum 1 year experience, 3+ years of experience preferred.
  • Prior shipyard experience a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
