Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery/Postpartum/Mother-Baby (L&D/PP/MB) position at a Level II Trauma acute care hospital, requiring at least 2 years of LDRP experience and active BLS and NRP certifications.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting with a combined L&D/Postpartum/Mother-Baby unit
  • Unit consists of 11 beds serving labor and postpartum patients, 1 OR suite for C-sections, and 1 triage bed
  • Approximately 320 births per year; patient population includes vaginal births, C-sections, inductions, special care nursery, and hysterectomy cases — no antepartum patients
  • AWHONN staffing ratio guidelines are followed
  • Cerner EMR currently in use, with a transition to Epic planned
  • 12-hour night shifts with flexibility to float to days as needed
  • Every 3rd weekend and every other holiday required
  • Floating to other units possible as staffing allows, but travelers will not serve as the primary float nurse
  • No charge nurse assignment for travelers; charge nurse and house supervisor are on-site
  • OB physician in-house 24/7; anesthesia in-house 24/7; RT available in-house to support special care nursery
  • No telemetry monitor techs — nurses are not required to read their own strips
  • Self-scheduling available; no on-call requirement
  • Hospital-supplied scrubs provided
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
  • Current certifications required: BLS (AHA) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Minimum 2 years of L&D (LDRP) experience required
  • C-section recovery experience required (unless delivery was under general anesthesia)
  • Experience titrating epidurals and IV medications to induce labor required
  • BSN not required
  • 2 professional references required: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include caring for laboring and postpartum patients, recovering C-section patients, and supporting special care nursery patients as needed
  • Orientation consists of 2 shifts (approximately 8 hours)
  • Candidates who previously worked for this health system as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their start date, and hospital approval is required
  • Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and are subject to a reduced bill rate
