Specialized Instruction Opportunity: DHH Teacher (Full-Time) New Orleans
We are seeking a dedicated Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher to join our team in the New Orleans, Louisiana area. This full-time position offers 35 hours per week (7 hours daily plus 30-minute unpaid lunch) providing specialized instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing. You'll play a crucial role in creating an accessible learning environment where every student can thrive academically and develop essential communication skills. Position Details
Schedule: Full-time, 35 hours per week
- Daily Hours: 7 hours + 30-minute unpaid lunch
- Schedule: School hours, Monday through Friday
Specialization Focus:
- Provide specialized instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Create inclusive learning environments with appropriate accommodations
- Support students' academic growth through accessible teaching methods
- Foster communication development and independence
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specialized curriculum designed for students with hearing impairments
- Implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for DHH students
- Utilize various communication methods including ASL, spoken language, and assistive technology
- Collaborate with audiologists, speech therapists, and other specialists
- Provide direct instruction in academic subjects with appropriate modifications
- Support students' social-emotional development and self-advocacy skills
- Work closely with families to support student progress at home
- Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and achievements
Requirements & Qualifications
- Active Louisiana Department of Education (DOE) Certificate required
- Specialized training or certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing education
- Experience teaching students with hearing impairments preferred
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication methods
- Knowledge of assistive hearing technology and classroom accommodations
- Understanding of Deaf culture and community
- Strong collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent communication abilities for working with students, families, and staff
- Commitment to full-time employment (35 hours per week)
