JOB: Social Worker, Part-Time, Flexibility Offered

LOCATION: Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota, Moorhead

RESPONSIBILITIES:

LSNM
is seeking to hire a part-time social worker (25 hours per week) who will be part of an interdisciplinary team of attorneys and paralegals. The social worker will work closely with attorneys and legal staff in multiple practice areas. In this role, the social worker will assist with particularly challenging cases: identifying services and providing advocacy, making appropriate referrals and participating in client meetings, providing crisis management, and short-term supportive counseling related to the clients case.
The social worker will be supervised by the Moorhead Supervising Attorney.

The social worker will:

  • Work cooperatively with legal staff to provide support, crisis intervention and management for legal aid clients.
  • Identify gaps in resources, services, create new channels, and connections to bridge those gaps.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Connect clients with appropriate services to address safety, health, housing, transportation, employment, food, education, substance use & family care needs.
  • Explore options to meet needs when necessary services do not exist in a community.
  • Utilize an empowerment and advocacy approach to promote and protect their clients right to self-determination.
  • Document all work in LegalServer case management system and track data and outcomes information for grant reporting.
  • Perform continuous quality improvement activities and program evaluations based on expected outcomes.
  • The social worker should have a passion for promoting justice and overcoming barriers facing low-income people, be a creative and zealous staff member and a team-player and demonstrate a commitment to achieving lasting results for clients and low-income communities.
  • Develop and maintain community relationships with other non-profit agencies, government officials, government employees, community leaders, and others.
  • Travel within our service area and also to meetings or conferences.
  • Adhere to program priorities and case handling policies, procedures and standards of practice, as well as the highest professional and ethical standards.
  • Participate in community outreach sessions.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Social Work and/or the human services field.
  • Other combinations of education and experience, which could provide the necessary abilities, qualities and skills listed. Candidates
    will be evaluated on an individual basis.
  • Possess the ability to work cooperatively with team members, clients, as well as community organizations and institutions.
  • Have the ability to exercise appropriate independent judgment as needed.
  • Strong clinical and case management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, and possess strong organizational skills.
  • Be creative and innovative in the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Experience working with diverse, low-income, and immigrant communities with a commitment to social justice.
  • Have a willingness to respond to unforeseen critical times and/or emergencies.
  • Demonstrated skills at socio-economic and cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with someone who is angry, upset, or ill.
  • Experience working in a legal setting (Preferred)
  • Microsoft Office: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Case Management: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Driver's License (Preferred)

CLOSING DATE: August 1, 2025, or until filled.

ANNUAL SALARY: This
part-time position starts at $50,000 to $60,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Generous benefits and PTO.
