The Construction Lead is responsible for overseeing a crew and/or contract personnel for construction activities. This position is responsible for initiating and actively communicating with team members on all key/major decisions and ensuring that all construction activities are executed in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner, and in accordance with all applicable Company, State and Industry Standards and Guidelines. This position works in close collaboration with engineering, field and EHS staff. A successful candidate must be team oriented, self-motivated and demonstrate with a strong commitment to upholding safety, operational, and environmental policies.
This role mainly supports the Delaware Basin and therefore frequent trips to the Jal, NM office will be required.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
In addition to the technical roles and responsibilities the Construction Lead is also responsible for the following:
• Provides visible safety leadership and works closely with EHS team. Leads regular safety meetings with contractors.
• Supervises area construction of Tank Battery’s, Pipelines, Associated Equipment and Electrical projects. This includes ordering materials and managing schedules, as well as documenting and reporting weekly spend.
• Supervises and Mentors Foreman
• Supervises and ensures technical work is of the highest quality from any direct reports.
• Participates in the hiring of staff, performance reviews and personnel development efforts for any direct reports.
• Supervises construction and installation of well site equipment, flowlines, power lines, etc.
• Supervises the repair of existing facilities including leak repairs, upgrades, etc. Lead input on any compressor moves or changes.
• Responsible for office, shop, and yard maintaining internal inventory.
• Screens and selects properly trained and qualified contractors to work on SM properties.
• Reviews well facility surface equipment for sizing and best fit applications.
• Works closely with facility engineers to source standard equipment in a timely and cost-effective manner from approved vendors.
• Reviews and approves contractor bids for completeness and accuracy.
• Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings, providing updates and input on construction activities.
• Makes decisions along with engineering personnel regarding status of projects and field related problems. Works closely with Engineers to develop project work scopes for retrofit and new build activities.
• Actively participates in safe design reviews – Hazard reviews, MOCs, and PSSRs.
• Handles invoice management
• Remains current in the application of the latest proven technologies and methods
• Regular field trips are required and must be able to work extended hours when required.
• Conducts business with the highest ethical standards.
Role-Specific Technical Knowledge & Skills:
• Detailed knowledge of company policies and procedures, industry practices, construction standards, welding procedures, and OSHA rules and regulations. Knowledge of ASME B31.3 and B31.8 a plus.
• Strong understanding of facilities and equipment in oil and gas environment – pipelines, tank batteries, compression, wellhead connects, vessels, pumps, powerlines, and other electrical infrastructure, etc. Understanding of facility documentation (i.e., PFDs, P&IDs, C&Es, Electrical one-lines) is a plus. Ability to create isometric piping drawings is a plus.
• Good written and verbal skills required. Proficient level of skill in Microsoft Office, especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Knowledge of AutoCAD a plus.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Education:
• High School Degree or equivalent. Associate or Bachelor’s degree is a plus.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
Typical Experience:
• Minimum 10 years of oil and gas experience.
• Supervisory experience is a plus.
• Mechanical Aptitude a plus.
