Mid Michigan Leadership Academy is currently hiring a Behavior Interventionist for the upcoming school year.
Mid-Michigan Leadership Academy (MMLA), chartered by CMU and managed by CS Partners, is a K-8 Title I public school academy serving a dynamic and diverse student body in Lansing, Michigan. MMLA’s goal is to provide an environment where all students can achieve success to reach their fullest potential. MMLA affords families in the greater Lansing area a tuition-free alternative education option to their local district.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) with fidelity by providing direct, consistent behavioral support and monitoring student progress.
· Conduct behavioral observations and assessments to identify patterns and triggers, informing the development or adjustment of intervention strategies.
· Deliver targeted instruction in social-emotional skills, including self-regulation, conflict resolution, and coping strategies, to improve students’ interpersonal and emotional functioning.
· Apply de-escalation techniques and crisis prevention strategies in a safe and effective manner to maintain a constructive and supportive learning environment.
· Use evidence-based behavior management strategies to reinforce positive behaviors and reduce disruptive or unsafe actions.
· Maintain detailed documentation of student behavior, intervention strategies used, progress notes, and data collection for ongoing evaluation and reporting.
· Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including teachers, counselors, administrators, and families, to develop, implement, and revise BIPs and behavior goals.
· Participate actively in team meetings, supervision, and professional development to remain current with best practices in behavior intervention, trauma-informed care, and student support services.
· Foster a positive, respectful, and supportive environment that upholds students' dignity and encourages personal growth.
· Supervise and manage groups of students in various settings, ensuring student safety and adherence to established behavior expectations.
· Establish and reinforce daily routines and procedures that support structure, predictability, and a sense of security for students.
· Maintain ongoing communication with students, families, and school staff to support consistency, build relationships, and reinforce interventions.
· Perform moderate to extensive physical activity including frequent standing or walking.
OTHER DUTIES
· Demonstrate initiative and independence while remaining receptive to feedback and direction from administrators.
· Maintain composure in high-stress situations and effectively implements approved de-escalation and behavior management strategies.
· Build and maintain positive, respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, support staff, and community partners.
· Serve as a role model for all students and within the school community.
· Maintain regular and punctual attendance to ensure consistent support for students, staff, and school operations.
· Maintain a professional appearance; demonstrate effective and timely communication; and maintain accurate, organized, and confidential records
· Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Social Work, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
· Experience working with individuals with behavioral issues, developmental disabilities, or in educational settings preferred.
· Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and techniques is a plus.
· Strong observational and analytical skills with the ability to assess and respond to individual needs.
