A DAY IN THE LIFE

This position is responsible for the central underwriting of mortgages, direct and indirect consumer loans, home equities, mobile home loans, and instant money lines. This position will assist customers and branch staff by reviewing and analyzing credit and loan applications to make appropriate decisions within Bank guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Upon receipt of application, perform all underwriting requirements for loans that will kept in portfolio, sold on secondary market, or put in REIT and enter into appropriate software systems in a timely manner.
  • Review file for all appropriate disclosures and additional required documentation. If additional items are needed, they are consistently included in the commitment letter.
  • Obtain and review the appraisal and all required documentation from the Branch/Loan Originator to support the AU findings. Complete the URAR Appraisal Desk Review form and ensure any issues on the appraisal are resolved.
  • Work closely with the Loan Originators to provide assistance in regard to product knowledge, pricing and file requirements. Maintain communication with the Loan Originators on loan status in a timely manner.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Underwriter and Underwriters, perform central underwriting of mortgages, direct and indirect consumer loans, home equities, mobile home loans, instant money lines. Insure loan decisions are consistent with policy, and recommend creative solutions for approval as applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS

A.S. degree preferred, Bachelor's degree in business or related field preferred; a minimum of three years' related experience in mortgage processing, mortgage origination, HELOC or consumer lending experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Prior experience in a customer service setting required. Computer literacy and a strong attention to detail required. The individual must be highly organized and a self-starter. Knowledge of consumer lending regulatory and compliance guidelines as well as loan documentation required, including ability to analyze credit reports and working knowledge of income calculations to determine credit worthiness. Knowledge of Reg Z and other regulatory requirements required.
