Job Title: Pipefitter

Work Location: Various

Full-time, non-exempt

Job Summary:

The Pipefitter is responsible for configuring, installing, fitting and maintaining various piping systems used in industrial construction operations. This role requires strict adherence to safety rules and regulations and may involve supporting other trades when pipefitting work is not available.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of field experience working as a pipefitter on commercial and/or industrial projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and maintain piping and piping systems and related fixtures for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems.
  • Select appropriate pipe types and sizes based on job specifications
  • Inspect worksites for obstructions and structural integrity before installation.
  • Plan installation sequences to avoid conflicts with other trades and construction activities.
  • Cut pipe using various tools including hacksaws, pipe cutters, hammer/chisel, torches, and machines.
  • Bend pipe by hand or with pipe-bending equipment; thread pipe using threading machines.
  • Assemble and install metal and non-metal pipes and fittings (brass, copper, lead, glass, plastic)
  • Join pipes using threaded, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints
  • Secure piping systems to structures using clamps, brackets, and hangers, using hand tools.
  • Install and maintain refrigeration and air-conditioning systems including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping
  • Test piping system for leaks using pressure gauges and other diagnostic tools.

  • Flexibility to perform a variety of tasks which may change frequently.
  • Logical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in basic arithmetic operations
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and visualize 3D structures from 2D plans.

Tool and Equipment Requirements:

  • Must possess the minimum tools required for Mechanics per InServ Policy

Proficient in using:

  • All types of power drills, grinders, and saws
  • Pipe threading equipment of all sizes
  • Hand tools for lifting, positioning, and aligning (dollies, skates, chain falls, come-alongs, etc.)
  • Pneumatic tire forklifts up to 10,000 lbs. (with approval)
  • Single and multi-person aerial lifts up to 26 feet (with approval)

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Continuous lifting and carrying of 1-20 lbs.; frequent lifting and carrying of 21-50 lbs.
  • Frequent walking, climbing, sitting, and standing.
  • Clear verbal communication and normal hearing abilities.
  • Visual acuity including close, distance, color, peripheral vision and depth perception, focus adjustment.
  • Reach for, handle and grasp pipe, tubing and hand tools.
  • Able to work in typical construction environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, fumes, high noise levels, confined spaces and heights.
