Position Overview:The Labeling & Regulatory Compliance Specialist is responsible for managing and improving labeling processes for all brands, ensuring compliance with USDA, FDA, and Organic program requirements. This role oversees regulatory reviews, maintains up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, and supports organic labeling and audits. The specialist communicates technical information to non-technical partners, provides regulatory support to internal teams, co-packers, and customers, and collaborates to bring compliant products to market. Additional responsibilities include facilitating new product development related to labeling and data management, maintaining product specifications, supporting Procurement with supplier documentation, and assisting with audits and related administrative tasks.

Compensation: $59,974 to $75,442

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of The Role:Labeling & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure effective labeling practices for all brands, overseeing the process from development through USDA label approval.
  • Responsible for the overall label process, including continuous process improvement and documentation.
  • Conduct regulatory reviews to ensure compliance with USDA and FDA regulations for all products.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the USDA regulatory environment and requirements.
  • Oversee Organic program compliance, including labeling and annual audits.

Communication & Support

  • Communicate technical information clearly to non-technical business partners, ensuring regulatory compliance in all product communications.
  • Provide regulatory support to Meyer Natural team members, co-packers, and customers, assisting with claims, label development, and regulatory review.
  • Collaborate with team members to bring compliant products to market, meeting Sales timelines.

Product & Data Management

  • Facilitate new product development as it relates to label creation, product master data in ERP systems, and management in vendor databases (e.g., Kroger, Trader Joe’s, Albertson’s).
  • Maintain and review product specifications from a diverse range of co-packers.

Supplier & Audit Coordination

  • Assist Procurement with animal protocol and supporting documentation for all protein suppliers to ensure accurate disclosure of processes to the USDA.
  • Assist in maintaining co-packer logs, third-party audits, animal welfare audits, certificates of insurance (COIs), and Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) information.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education Needed To Be Successful:

  • Bachelor's degree required - Food Science, Food Technology, Food and Nutrition highly preferred
  • 3 years of experience in the food industry, including labeling and/or regulatory compliance, is required.
  • 3 years of experience with USDA labeling practices are required; 5+ years of experience is preferred.
  • Direct experience working with the USDA on label approvals, including temporary approvals and Organic program approvals/audits, required.
  • Experience with product databases and specification/nutritional data preferred.
  • Familiarity with product master data and product specification management is preferred.
  • Previous experience in the protein industry is preferred.
  • Experience with graphic design, printing processes, and related terminology is preferred.
