A GIS Supervisor oversees the production of geographic information systems (GIS) maps and applications, manages teams of IT specialists, and ensures the accuracy and quality of GIS data and maps, while also managing budgets, projects, and client relationships.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Leadership and Management:

· Team Leadership:

· Supervises and manages GIS staff, including programmers, analysts, cartographers, and data managers.

Project Management:

· Plans, develop, and implement GIS projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.

Budget Management:

· Develops and manages the GIS budget, including procuring hardware, software, and other resources.

Client Communication:

· Consults with clients to understand their needs and requirements foGIS applications.

Training and Development:

· Provides training and mentorship to GIS staff, keeping them up to date on the latest technologies and best practices.

Technical Expertise:

· GIS Development: Oversees the development and implementation of GIS databases, applications, and maps.

· Data Management: Ensures the accuracy, integrity, and quality of GIS data.

· Spatial Analysis: Provides expertise in GIS modeling, data analysis, and spatial analysis techniques.

· Software and Hardware: Manages the selection, implementation, and maintenance of GIS software and hardware.

· Standard Development: Develops and maintains GIS standards and protocols.

Other Responsibilities:

· Quality Control: Ensures the quality and accuracy of GIS products and services.

· Problem Solving: Addresses technical issues and provides solutions to GIS users.

· Research and Development: Investigates new GIS technologies and applications.

· Collaboration: Collaborates with other departments within the organization to identify and prioritize GIS needs.

· Vendor Management: Manages relationships with GIS vendors and consultants.

· Policy and Procedure Development: Develops and implements policies and procedures to guide GIS operations.
