Part-Time / Casual

Plastic Surgery Practice in Edina seeks a skilled certified surgical technologist / first assist and clinical assistant on a casual basis in a part-time capacity. The position will include variable shifts anywhere from zero up to three OR days per week at multiple accredited surgery centers in the Twin Cities area assisting a board certified plastic surgeon during cosmetic plastic surgery cases. Additionally there are rotating in-clinic shifts available to assist during in-clinic procedures. There are operating room or clinic shifts available most Tuesdays and occasionally on other days.

Responsibilities:

Function as a skilled certified surgical technologist (CST) first assist during cosmetic plastic surgery procedures by

• Obtaining surgical consents from patient prior to procedure
• Documenting surgical consents and other relevant information in EMR (such as implants)
• Assisting with implant device registration as needed
• Review patient chart and preop prior to surgery
• Demonstrating comprehensive knowledge in the safe operating of equipment and devices during surgery
• Adhering to industry standard safety protocols including the use of personal protective equipment
• Maintaining surgical safety protocols to protect patient from surgical site infection
• Assemble and gather supplies and equipment needed for each procedure
• Check prior to the start of the procedure that all supplies and equipment are present
• Provide instruments and supplies to the surgeon during the procedure
• Assisting the surgeon with retraction, obtaining hemostasis, cutting sutures, placing sutures, and closing incisions within the scope of practice as needed.
• Maintaining a fire safe environment
• Maintaining and monitoring aseptic technique at all times
• Complying with all universal protocol and facility site validation and time-out policies
• Maintain required competencies for professional certification.
• Comply with all clinic and facility policies and procedures, accreditation standards, and professional guidelines.
• Maintain professional demeanor and conduct at accredited surgery center at all times.
• Assist Surgery Scheduler with performing inventory as needed.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Function as a clinical assistant by

• Assisting with in-clinic procedures.
• Room patients and assist surgical patients during post op appointment encounters
• Gather and verify important patient information and enter into EMR.
• Assist with scheduling surgery cases as needed.
• Assist with maintaining and efficient clinical flow.
• Assist with new consultation appointments.
• Maintaining and monitoring aseptic technique at all times.
• Assist with inventory management as needed.
• Sterile Instrument Processing.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Certified Surgical Technologist (must have successfully completed training program and be current on all certifications/continuing education requirements)

Ability to successfully complete full credentialing process at up to 3 accredited surgery centers prior to start date (credentialing process managed by accredited surgery centers has multiple requirements including but not limited to the following: background check, documents pertaining to certification, peer references, hospital affiliations listing, work history, BLS training certification, vaccination history, et al). *Our surgery scheduler can assist with document scanning, collection, and submission, and a qualified candidate may be hired on a temporary basis during the credentialing process to assist in the clinic prior to final accreditation at our partner surgery centers.

One year of operating room experience within a surgical specialty preferred

• Ability to sew is a bonus, but we are willing to teach the right candidate
• Excellent verbal communications skills with a patient-oriented approach
• Punctuality is required (generally availability 30 minutes prior to case start time or clinic start time)
• Friendly disposition and willingness to provide patients with the best care experience from start to finish.
