Department: Engineering Report to: Manager of Engineering
Position Description:
We are seeking a skilled Regulatory Engineer with a strong background in commercial and/or industrial refrigeration systems to join our engineering and compliance team. The Regulatory Engineer will be responsible for ensuring our products meet all applicable safety, environmental, and performance regulations and standards across domestic and international markets. This role combines technical expertise in refrigeration with regulatory knowledge to guide product design, testing, certification, and market approval.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interpret, apply, and monitor relevant codes, standards, and regulations (UL, NSF, ASHRAE, DOE, EPA, ISO, CEC, etc.) related to refrigeration equipment.
- Collaborate with design engineering teams to ensure compliance is integrated early in product development.
- Lead product certification and testing efforts with third-party agencies (UL, CSA, NSF, etc.).
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving regulations impacting refrigeration (energy efficiency, flammability, refrigerants, emissions, safety).
- Develop internal compliance procedures and documentation for new and existing products.
- Prepare and submit regulatory filings and technical reports.
- Act as the point of contact with regulatory agencies, auditors, and certification bodies.
- Provide training and guidance to engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams on compliance requirements.
- Support product lifecycle management by ensuring continued compliance with updated regulations.
- Other job duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field.
- 3–7+ years of experience in refrigeration design, testing, or regulatory compliance.
- Strong knowledge of refrigeration principles, components, and refrigerants (including low-GWP and natural refrigerants).
- Experience with U.S. and international product certification standards (UL, CSA, NSF, IEC, ASHRAE, DOE, EPA).
- Familiarity with risk assessment and safety standards for flammable refrigerants (R-290, R-600a, etc.) is a strong plus.
- Excellent technical writing and documentation skills.
- Strong communication skills for working across teams and with external agencies.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple compliance projects.
Preferred:
- Familiarity of CAD & PDM Software (SolidWorks)
- Knowledge of refrigeration thermodynamics and cycle analysis.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a sitting or stationary position for long periods of time working on a computer.
- Must be able to work independently and efficiently without constant direct oversite or supervision.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. occasionally
