Job DescriptionEngineer Manager - SMT
We are partnering with a leading electronics manufacturing organization located in Tempe, AZ to hire an SMT Engineer Manager. This role is responsible for leading the Engineering team, supporting Production, and driving process improvements using Lean Manufacturing principles. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in SMT, electronics assembly, and strong leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers and technologists, fostering development and collaboration
  • Plan, design, and implement manufacturing projects, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery
  • Develop and enforce engineering policies, standards, and procedures
  • Collaborate with management, production, and marketing to assess feasibility, cost, and customer demand
  • Oversee departmental budgets, objectives, and goals
  • Drive Lean manufacturing implementation and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Promote product and process quality through root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Support recruitment, performance evaluations, career development, and training initiatives
  • Participate in management meetings and contribute to strategic planning

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering (Electronics highly preferred)
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience, including technical management
  • Strong knowledge of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and AOI programming/design
  • Experience in electronics assembly (SMT, PTH, mechanical) preferred
  • Ability to train, develop, and motivate others
  • Lean Six Sigma experience is an advantage
  • Knowledge of IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 standards
  • Familiarity with PPAP, APQP, Control Plan, PFMEA, MSA, SPC, and MES systems
  • Project management skills and proficiency in MS Office
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities

Work Environment

  • Shift work including day; occasional overtime may be required
  • Moderate noise with frequent movement of people, mechanical parts, and machinery
  • Exposure to chemicals; lifting up to 25 lbs occasionally, standing long periods
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment

Salary Range: $70,000-$95,000; client open to salaries outside this range depending on experience.
