InflexionPoint, LLC is looking for an Instrumentation and Controls Estimator.


We are seeking a detail-oriented, technically skilled Instrumentation and Controls Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in industrial automation and instrumentation, plus a background in engineering, and excel at turning specifications and drawings into accurate and competitive estimates. This is a growth-oriented role, with future career development opportunities in engineering, purchasing, or project management. This position reports directly to the Senior Solutions Architect.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop Bills of Materials (BOM) based on scopes of work provided by sales and on bid specification documents from contractors.
  • Review and interpret project drawings to perform take-offs for input/output (I/O) and instrumentation counts.
  • Select materials based on specifications, project requirements, and consultation with technical distributors.
  • Evaluate and navigate construction specifications, and P&ID diagrams.
  • Communicate effectively with internal sales teams and, as needed, with customers to clarify project size and scope.
  • Attend pre-bid site visits and construction meetings as necessary to gain an informed understanding of existing site conditions.
  • Support the accurate pricing of projects by leveraging your professional experience in industrial automation and instrumentation.
  • Assist with the design and selection of control panels and have a general understanding of panel components and their functions.
  • Collaborate closely with technical distributors to finalize materials selection and obtain accurate project pricing.

Requirements:

Skills and Qualifications

  • 5–8 years industry experience preferred, but candidates with strong mechanical or pricing backgrounds considered.
  • Experience in industrial automation and instrumentation required.
  • Control panel design, including conceptualization and bill of materials development.
  • Instrumentation selection.
  • Hands-on estimating/pricing experience within an industrial OEM, distributor, integrator, or contractor environment.
  • Technical sales exposure.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings/specs (P&IDs, construction documents).
  • Team-oriented and collaborative, with a strong focus on serving both project and customer needs.
  • Independently motivated with a strong work ethic.
  • Highly detail-oriented, particularly with respect to material selection and specification compliance.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills for both internal and client-facing interactions.

Education, Certifications and/or Experience

  • Associate’s Degree (Technical) with 2+ years of relevant experience, OR Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering) with 4+ years of relevant experience.

Working Environment

Duties are performed in an office environment. Controllers routinely use standard office equipment which includes, but is not limited to, computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.


Physical Demands

Must be able to sit and/or stand for prolonged hours consistent with the average workday; to operate a computer and other office equipment, including but not limited to computer, printer, etc.
