Position Overview
Maya Angelou Public Charter High School is seeking an Academic and Assessment Specialist t. The primary focus of this role is to improve student outcomes. The Academic and Assessment Specialist at MAPCS is expected to implement academic interventions, support and coordinate all testing and utilize assessment data to improve academic outcomes for students. Planning, preparation, implementation of professional development, and data usage are requirements for this role. There is an emphasis upon collecting and utilizing a broad range of data to drive and display mastery while ensuring that students and staff are engaged in academic interventions and aware of testing expectations.

Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Plan, coordinate, and implement academic interventions for students
- Coordinate and implement testing to include PARCC, PSAT/SAT, and NWEA MAP
- Work with school leaders and instructional staff to create a healthy school-wide intervention and assessment culture
- Work one-on-one or in small groups with students who need interventions in Math or Literacy
- Communicate the results of testing and evaluation of assigned students to their teacher, school administrators, and parents in a timely fashion
- Facilitate staff training on intervention strategies that all teachers can use to support student learning
- Assist teachers with the collection and analysis of data to help drive instruction
- Evaluate student achievement and assist with placing students in the appropriate interventions
- Identify needs and make recommendations for appropriate instructional materials and assessments that directly support and align to the Common Core State Standards
- Meet regularly with school leadership to discuss testing coordination and assessment cycles
- Identify the instructional needs of students, set learning goals and targets, and problem-solve with teachers to develop best practices for continuous academic growth of students served during intervention groups
- Providing multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate mastery through bi-weekly performance-based, formative assessments
- Actively engaging in student enrichment activities, e.g. meetings, retreats, outings, and evening events, as needed to support the educational program
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, subject-related field, or other degree with a heavy focus on content (required)
- Ability to analyze and create visual representations of relevant data (i.e, excel and/or google sheets)
- Eligibility for OSSE certification in content area
- Teaching experience with youth at the secondary level
- Familiarity with research-based instructional methods and curriculum development
- Knowledge of student-centered instruction, performance-based assessments, and youth development principles
