About the Role
The ICU RN will use their advanced skills to care for adult patients who are critically ill and at high risk for life-threatening health problems. Critical care nurses may also care for pre-and post-operative patients.
POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides immediate and intensive nursing care when a patient suffers a heart attack, stroke, shock, severe trauma, respiratory distress, or other severe medical issue.
- Provides timely complex assessments and treatment vital to patients with a critical care need.
- Assesses a patient’s condition and planning and implementing patient care plans.
- Assists physicians in performing procedures.
- Observes and records patient vital signs.
- Ensures that ventilators, monitors and other types of medical equipment function properly.
- Administers intravenous fluids and medications.
- Orders diagnostic tests.
- Collaborates with fellow members of the critical care team.
- Responses to life-saving situations, using nursing standards and protocols for treatment.
- Provides care for pre-and post-operative patients as needed or requested.
- Acts as patient advocate.
- Provides education and support to patient families.
- All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current RN licensure in good standing issued by the Board of Nurse Examiners of the State of Texas to practice professional nursing.
- Minimum of one (1) year ICU experience, Two (2) years preferred.
- Cognitive skills as related to the position.
- Current and active CPR and ACLScertification.
