Position Summary
The Consumer Lending Specialist is responsible for evaluating, processing, and closing consumer loan applications while delivering exceptional member service. This role supports the credit union’s lending goals by ensuring accurate documentation, regulatory compliance, and personalized financial solutions for members.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and process consumer loan applications including auto, personal, and credit card loans.
- Analyze member financial information to determine creditworthiness and recommend appropriate loan products.
- Conduct credit checks and verify income and employment documentation.
- Assist members with loan applications via phone, online, and in-person channels.
- Ensure compliance with lending policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Prepare and present loan proposals for approval within assigned authority limits.
- Perform loan closings and explain terms, disclosures, and repayment schedules.
- Promote additional products such as credit protection, GAP insurance, and warranties.
- Maintain accurate loan records and follow up on pending applications.
- Provide courteous and professional service to members and staff.
- Stay current on lending trends, products, and regulatory changes.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in consumer lending or financial services.
- Strong knowledge of lending products, credit analysis, and loan documentation.
- Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with loan origination systems and financial software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- MLO registration may be required depending on lending authority.
Working Conditions
An office environment mainly sitting in front of a computer screen.
Assisting members on the phone, in person, or electronic channels.
Being able to communicate and hear members at normal speaking levels in an office setting.
May require occasional travel, to attend trainings and meetings.
