Job DescriptionJob Summary:
Outside Plant Engineering Technicians are critical to deliver on i3's promise of the world's most advanced internet, television, and voice services with the industry's best customer service. The OSP Engineering Technician plans and prepares drawings for construction of new, or removal or rearrangement of existing fiber optic cables and conduits to obtain optimum and efficient use of communications facilities.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Plans and prepares drawings for construction of new fiber optic cables and conduits, with a focus on economical utilization of communications facilities.
- Plans and prepares drawings for removal or rearrangement of existing fiber optic cables, and conduits.
- Reviews designs from vendors and peers to ensure suitability
- Generates construction prints, permit drawings, Bills of Material, and other documents and diagrams as necessary to assign projects for construction
- Enters field notes into central system for accurate record-keeping regarding project decisions and history. Completes appropriate paperwork / system logs as required.
- Coordinates with stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure projects move forward on schedule
- Provides assistance to other team members or performs other duties as needed.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must be computer proficient
- Ability to track, prioritize, and complete multiple projects simultaneously without missing a beat.
- Enjoys solving tough design problems and driving toward positive decisions and efficient outcomes.
- Inquisitive, detail-oriented and analytical with a passion for technology.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
- Experience with CAD, 3GIS, ARCGIS, or other mapping and drafting software preferred but not required.
- Ability to work both independently on the heads-down analytical work and collaboratively as part of a team when needed to solve customer problems.
- Results-oriented and self-motivated; enjoys seeing a job well-done.
- Ability to recognize, analyze, and effectively solve problems in a timely and organized manner.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and a friendly demeanor.
- Clean driving record required, with the ability to travel locally and occasionally overnight.
Education and Experience:
- Associates degree in a technical/science/mathematics fields, and/or a minimum of 1 to 2 years’ experience related to network design or field work
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work outdoors, and in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to walk, bend, and lift up to 75 pounds.
- Better than average visual acuity when inspecting drawings and blueprints.
- Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling office equipment.
- Ability to communicate clearly in person, over the phone, and via email.
- Occasional standing, walking, bending, or lifting light office supplies (typically up to 20 lbs).
- Requires normal vision, hearing, and speech for routine communication and task completion.
