Manufacturing Engineer

  • Location: Rochester Hills, MI
  • Schedule: Onsite
  • Type: Long-Term Contract with opportunity to convert to direct employee

The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing tooling, delivering, and specifying electrical, mechanical and controls hardware as well as controlling and updating quality documentation to be used internally for Manufacturing at a Robot Factory. The Manufacturing Engineer is expected to collaborate closely with a cross-functional team of engineers and project management to ensure successful completion of real-word applications that will be used in a medium-to-

high volume production setting. The ideal candidate is a customer-focused problem-solver who enjoys collaborating with cross-functional teams and has experience with optimizing throughput, adding efficiency and developing/designing improvements to processes in a manufacturing setting.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Support Manufacturing requests and resolve production issues with appropriate urgency.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement projects aimed at increasing productivity, quality, and safety.
  • Create and provide control plans, build plans, quality control documents, safety requirements, protective
  • personal equipment, and packaging/shipment plan per quality process.
  • Maintain ERP and other capacity type planning tools for labor costs, material costs, and duration planning.
  • Schedule and conduct manufacturing review meetings to maintain schedule(s).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify process bottlenecks and implement data-driven
  • solutions.
  • Provide weekly/daily project updates to project team and management as needed.
  • Propose and justify tooling and equipment to improve quality and cost down manufacturing processes.
  • Interface with purchasing regarding supplier/component selection and initiate purchase requisitions as
  • well as requesting accurate quotes for designed items and off-the-shelf items.
  • Manage monthly cost reporting and identify actions to achieve targets.
  • Maintain a professional level of project/engineering document control per quality procedures.
  • Follow up on designs and material to ensure quality and adherence to delivery schedule is maintained.
  • Reliable, consistent attendance required.

Ideal candidate will have the following experience and education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline, preferably in Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing
  • Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Minimum three years of production experience with equipment manufacturing.
  • The ability to read mechanical prints.
  • The ability to read electrical prints.
  • The ability to troubleshoot and debug electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Proficient with CAD tools such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Train maintenance and production staff in new systems and upgrades.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Support resolution of manufacturing issues to achieve customer delivery.
  • Operate independently maintaining a high degree of initiative and providing targeted results.
  • Follow up on designs and material to ensure quality and adherence to delivery schedule is maintained.
  • Be resourceful and exhibit well thought approach to resolving the unexpected issues that may occur.
  • Develop an understanding of manufacturing and engineering applications while staying abreast of
  • innovative technology that can be used to improve quality, lower cost, and provide targeted results.
  • Maintain a professional, ethical, friendly, and fair relationship with all business contacts, internal and
  • externally.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of corporate/group functions, activities, and goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline
  • 3+ years of related experience.
  • Proficient with Design tools such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Experience working with a formal quality management system.

Required Competencies:

  • Analytical, problem-solving skills – ability to identify causes and offer potential solutions.
  • Organizational skills – effectively and professionally organize and plan for many simultaneous and
  • complex issues. The Engineer is expected to successfully complete these responsibilities on three to five
  • projects simultaneously as the business requires.
  • Team player - successfully work in teams with colleagues in varying responsibilities and backgrounds,
  • personal initiative, and ability to effectively manage themselves in a somewhat unstructured
  • environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills include listening, presenting, and effective written and
  • oral communication.
  • Proven high level of competency in Windows, MS Office including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other
  • web-based applications.
