Job Description

Our organization is currently in search of a full-time Board Certified/Eligible Nocturnist – Internal Medicine Physician to deliver exceptional care within our innovative health care system, specifically catering to our Veteran population. The selected physician will serve as the attending physician.

Position Overview

This role is integral to our teaching team. The attending physician will be responsible for mentoring residents, interns, and potentially medical students. Our organization is the primary teaching affiliate of the University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Therefore, candidates must qualify for a faculty position at the University of Arizona.

Preference will be given to those who are board eligible or board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). Additionally, candidates must hold current certifications in BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association. Proficiency in essential Internal Medicine invasive procedures is required, with refresher training available in our state-of-the-art simulation lab. Candidates are also expected to obtain facility certification in airway management after completing local online training, simulation lab sessions, and hands-on practice. While experience in supervising and instructing residents is highly desirable, recent graduates in Internal Medicine are also encouraged to apply, as our university partner offers courses on effective teaching methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality medical care to Veterans as the attending physician.
  • Instruct and mentor residents, interns, and medical students.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training programs.
  • Maintain proficiency in core Internal Medicine procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen; non-citizens may only be considered if qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in line with VA Policy.

  • Possess a Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent qualification from an accredited medical or osteopathic institution.

  • Hold a current, unrestricted medical license to practice in any U.S. State, Territory, or the District of Columbia.

  • Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program, leading to board certification eligibility.

  • Board certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).

  • Demonstrated proficiency in core invasive procedures in Internal Medicine.

  • Current ACLS and BCLS certifications.

  • Work hours: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
