Now Hiring: Controller – SoCal Construction
Are you passionate about numbers, job costing, and driving project success through financial leadership? Join our team as Financial Controller, where you’ll lead the financial operations of a well-established construction company serving Southern California for over 12 years.
What You’ll Do:
- Oversee the accounting team, including AP, AR, payroll, and labor compliance.
- Manage construction project contract administration, including tracking change orders.
- Partner with Project Managers to lead monthly financial reviews—focused on job costing, billing, cash flow, and change orders.
- Collaborate with the Service Department to ensure accurate job costing and timely billing. Create reports that will enable the department to make better decisions.
- Own the monthly financial close process and prepare bank and balance sheet reconciliations. Produce WIP reports and monthly financial statements. Track backlog monthly.
- Participate in high level financial analysis and planning for the management team.
- Monitor cash flow and accounts receivable, proactively addressing overdue accounts and optimizing vendor discounts.
- Coordinate with external auditors.
- Oversee the company’s insurance programs including renewals, audits, and claims (GL, Auto, Property, Health).
- Ensure full compliance with payroll tax filings, sales tax filings, payments, and reporting.
What You Bring:
- Must have the ability to see the BIG picture, delegate, and mentor the accounting team.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset.
- Experience with job costing and accounting systems.
- Familiarity with certified payroll, labor compliance, contract/lien law, and contract review.
- At least 5 years in construction accounting with experience in job costing, Government billing systems, WIP reports, GL, AP/AR, and month-end close.
- Minimum 5 years in a financial role within a construction firm and 1+ years in a leadership position.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred.

- Salary Range: $95,000–$120,000, depending on experience.
