Contemporaries is a government contracting firm seeking a creative and mission-driven Graphic Designer to support the Office of the Surgeon General within the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services on a contract. This role will play a critical part in translating complex public health information into clear, visually engaging materials for the general public.
The ideal candidate will have experience designing content that simplifies technical or medical information into accessible, easy-to-understand visuals that support national public health initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop high-quality visual content including:

- Infographics
- Social media graphics
- Digital and print materials
- Campaign branding assets
- Translate complex medical and public health concepts into clear, engaging, and digestible visual formats for diverse audiences
- Collaborate with public affairs, communications teams, and subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and alignment with public health messaging
- Support the development and execution of public health campaigns and outreach initiatives
- Ensure all designs align with HHS branding guidelines and accessibility standards (e.g., Section 508 compliance preferred)
- Assist with revisions, updates, and formatting of existing materials
- Provide general administrative or project support related to communications initiatives as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of professional graphic design experience
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
- Strong portfolio demonstrating:

- Digital campaign assets
- Ability to translate complex information into visually engaging content
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting federal agencies, healthcare organizations, or public health initiatives
- Familiarity with medical or scientific terminology
- Experience creating content for government or public sector audiences
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (Section 508 compliance)
- Experience with motion graphics or video editing (a plus)
