A Grade Foreman is a supervisory role within the construction industry, primarily responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of a grading crew on construction projects, such as earthwork, roadways, or site development.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Crew Supervision: Directly supervises and coordinates the work of the grading crew, ensuring tasks are performed efficiently and safely.
Planning and Scheduling: Works with Superintendents and Project Managers to plan and schedule grading activities, ensuring timely project completion. Prepares work plans and determines necessary means and methods to meet project goals.
Safety Management: Responsible for crew safety and enforcing safety procedures, including adherence to OSHA regulations. Conducts safety meetings and provides safety training.
Quality Control: Ensures work meets project specifications and quality standards. Addresses any issues or rework requirements.
Equipment Management: Oversees the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment used in grading operations. Ensures proper storage of materials and rented equipment.
Reporting: Reports on crew time, production, and material usage, and maintains accurate records. Reports on work progress to the Superintendent.
Reading and Interpretation: Reads, understands, and interprets construction drawings and specifications.
Problem Solving: Identifies and resolves issues that may arise during project execution.
Resource Management: Effectively manages available equipment and human resources.
Communication: Maintains effective communication with crew members, supervisors, and other stakeholders.
Additional Duties: May also operate heavy equipment, such as a motor grader or bulldozer, perform site inspections, and make recommendations to supervisors.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Experience: Demonstrable prior experience as a Grade Foreman, typically 3-5 years or more, is required. Experience in the heavy highway, commercial, multifamily industry is often preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of dirt work, including excavation, grade work, surveying, and final excavating.
Proficiency in operating heavy equipment, including motor graders, dozers, excavators, and dump trucks. Experience with GPS
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and blueprints.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Ability to solve problems and make decisions.
Understanding of construction procedures and OSHA guidelines.
Basic computer skills are a plus.
Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical labor, including standing for extended periods, bending, crouching, and lifting up to 50-90 pounds. Must be able to work in varying weather conditions and uneven surfaces.
Other: A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
