Overview

This posting is for Devil Mountain Nursery located in Colma, CA


Responsibilities

General Managers may have a primary focus in either office or yard operations. However, a comprehensive understanding of the full operation, including Administrative and Sales staff, is essential. General Managers play a critical leadership role in achieving company goals related to sales performance, people development, and facility improvement and maintenance. This role may include financial responsibilities such as budgeting, infrastructure planning, and hiring. The position requires regular collaboration with senior leadership and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee and lead the hiring, onboarding, and training of staff at the assigned nursery location.
  • Supervise staff, including performance evaluation, coaching, and addressing performance or behavioral issues.
  • Ensure a high level of professionalism and customer satisfaction across all transactions and interactions.
  • Lead or support staff in responding to and resolving customer issues at the nursery location.
  • Demonstrate effective collaboration with all departments, including Sales, Dispatch, Purchasing, Inventory, and Yard Operations.
  • Support and execute company initiatives and directives, including physical inventories and participation in location-specific and companywide meetings.
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of company software systems and operational processes across departments.
  • Lead site-level continuous improvement efforts across departments to improve efficiency, service, and operations.
  • Lead and reinforce compliance with company safety policies and procedures and support a safe work environment for employees and customers.
  • Oversee staffing levels, scheduling, and coverage to meet operational and customer service needs.
  • Monitor location performance and expenses and support budgeting and cost-control efforts as assigned.
  • Ensure consistent application of company policies, procedures, and standards across the location.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and assist with special projects throughout the year.


Qualifications

Experience & Other Requirements

    • Knowledge of nursery plants, products, and operations and/or experience in the landscape or related industry.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while collaborating effectively with customers and internal teams.
    • Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, accountability, and strong work ethic.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Minimum 5 years of experience working in a nursery, landscape, or related industry.
    • Minimum 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using point-of-sale, inventory management, and related business systems.
    • Sales and customer service experience required.
    • Bilingual English/Spanish skills highly preferred.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

This is an in-office position based within an active nursery store yard environment. Regular presence in both office and outdoor operational areas is required; no work-from-home option is available.

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods.
  • Extensive typing, 10-key use, gross grasping, and frequent use of hands and fingers required.
  • Regular outdoor work with exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and direct sun.
  • Work performed on uneven ground surfaces, including dirt, gravel, plant material, and irrigated areas.
  • Exposure to noise from equipment, vehicles, forklifts, and delivery trucks.
  • Work in proximity to moving equipment and vehicles, including forklifts, loaders, and delivery trucks.
  • Exposure to dust, pollen, soil, fertilizers, and plant-related allergens; occasional exposure to nursery chemicals in accordance with safety requirements.
  • High pedestrian and vehicle traffic within the store yard environment.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as applicable.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds, approximately 20% of the time.

Expected Salary $105,000
