Overview
The Licensed Psychiatric Technician provides essential mental health support services under the supervision of licensed nursing staff in correctional or behavioral health environments. The role involves direct patient care, observation, and intervention for individuals with mental health or intellectual developmental disabilities. Key responsibilities include crisis response, vital sign monitoring, hygiene support, and infection control.
Responsibilities

Provide direct care and monitor patients with mental health or developmental needs

Support hygiene, feeding, and daily living tasks while tracking patient progress

Respond to behavioral emergencies using trained techniques and first aid

Perform nursing-delegated tasks such as vital signs and specimen collection

Ensure safety and infection control through regular rounds and standard precautions
Qualifications
EDUCATION
- High school and specialized training for licensing/certification(s)
EXPERIENCE
- Experience facilitating groups with Mental Health patients
- One year of experience; within a correctional/detention facility preferred
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Current (and must maintain) unrestricted Psychiatric Technician license in state of practice
- Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
- Current (and must maintain) lifesaving ACLS certification through AHA
