Summary of Duties:

  • Be able to perform CPR as needed.
  • Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination. Screens patients for appropriate information.
  • Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination, and testing of the patients. Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests.
  • Labels and maintains proper storage for specimens and tests. Delivers tests and obtains results.
  • Cleans exam rooms appropriately between patients and at the end of each clinic.
  • Provides care to patients under the direct supervision of the physician, and as directed by standing protocols.
  • Communicates physician’s instructions to patients.
  • Observes, documents, and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians. Dispenses prescriptions/medication as directed.
  • Enters patient data with reliable accuracy and in accordance with established protocol.
  • Assists providers in completing medical records concerning medical history, diagnosis, prognosis, and current treatment plans. Maintains required records.
  • Orders diagnostic studies as directed by the physician.
  • Answers questions regarding patient surgical/procedural appointments and testing.
  • Makes follow-up calls to all patients following procedural appointments in accordance with established protocol.
  • Oversees appointment scheduling and ensures preferences are given to patients in emergency situations. Maintains timely flow of patients.
  • Assists providers as needed.
  • Helps process prior authorizations for images and prescriptions as needed.
  • Assists in referring patients to other specialists as directed.
  • Coordinate’s patient care activities for the clinic.
  • Performs patient telephone triage and assesses and coordinates needs with medical staff.
  • Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Issues outpatient materials and assists with patient instruction per physicians’ orders.
  • Maintains and reviews patients’ records, charts, and other pertinent information prior to appointments. Ensures that lab reports, x-rays, and other information are in patient record.
  • Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials. Ensures cleanliness. Prepares list of medical supplies needed.
  • Utilizes, maintains, and trains staff in clinic’s software systems as appropriate.
  • Attends all meetings as required.
  • Complies with all FCC policies.
  • Understands and supports the office’s HIPAA privacy practices. Maintains strictest confidentiality.
  • Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of medical assistant theory and practice to provide and evaluate patient care.
  • Knowledge or organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of a medical assistant to provide on-going patient care.
  • Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
  • Skill in assisting with a variety of treatments and medications as directed.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergent situations.
  • Ability to read, understand, and respond to detailed oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with competency in language, grammar, and spelling in both verbal and written form.
  • Basic computing skills including keyboarding and familiarity with Microsoft Windows.
  • Medical Assistant Certification or ability to acquire within 1 year of hire.
  • CPR certification required.
  • ACLS certification (optional but preferred).

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting training program required.
  • Previous experience in a clinic setting preferred.

Compensation/Benefits:

  • $19.00-$28.00 Hourly/non-exempt

Typical physical demands:

Requires full range of body motion handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Occasionally helps lift and move patients. Requires sitting, standing and/or walking for extensive periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal ranges. No color blindness. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.

Level 1 occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens & other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) by the nature of the tasks you perform. You will potentially be exposed to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinical environment. Work is performed in a medical office environment with occasional off premise travel. Involves frequent contact with patients, and the public. Occasional pressure due to multiple tasks and enquiries. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive.
