The Knights of Columbus Developmental Center, situated at 3800 Park Avenue, is in search of a dedicated Occupational Therapist to assist individuals with developmental disabilities in enhancing their independence and overall quality of life. This position operates Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Job Summary:

Your role will involve evaluating and treating patients facing physical, emotional, cognitive, and/or psychosocial challenges.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate patients' capabilities to safely and effectively carry out independent living tasks. Develop a tailored care plan that specifies the type and frequency of treatment.
  • Execute the treatment plan utilizing appropriate methods. Record patient progress and adjust the care plan as necessary, seeking guidance when needed.
  • Inform patients and their families/caregivers about the patient’s challenges. Assist in planning for patient discharge from therapy services and provide guidance on the selection and use of adaptive equipment and support programs.
  • Supervise care provided by designated personnel in accordance with established regulations and professional standards.
  • Maintain a constant state of alertness and safety while performing duties.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy or a related field, as required for licensure in the state of practice.

EXPERIENCE

  • No prior experience is necessary.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Continuous standing.
  • Regular lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech for oral communication.
  • Regular auditory skills to detect body sounds and alarms, as well as malfunctioning equipment.
  • Frequent visual acuity for both near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances.
  • Regular walking, reaching, gripping, and data entry tasks.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, sitting, squatting, twisting, and repetitive movements of the legs and arms.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional patient lifting/moving.
  • Occasional visual assessment for distance and spatial relationships, including color differentiation.
  • Occasional driving.
  • Rare crawling.

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

Resuscitation Certification Requirement: Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) must be obtained within 90 days of employment. Additional resuscitation certifications may be required based on departmental needs.
