Position Summary

Tribal One Construction is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our construction team in Rapid City, South Dakota. This role is responsible for safely operating a variety of heavy construction equipment to support civil, commercial, and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate takes pride in quality workmanship, follows strong safety practices, and works collaboratively in a fast‑paced construction environment. We are a federal construction company who works on Military Installations that requires a Drug test and Background check.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, skid steers, graders, and backhoes
  • Perform site preparation, grading, excavation, trenching, and material handling
  • Read and follow grade stakes, plans, and project specifications
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
  • Maintain a clean and safe job site; follow OSHA and company safety standards
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, crew members, and spotters
  • Assist with general labor duties as needed to support project completion
  • Perform work in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of heavy equipment operating experience in construction or civil work
  • Ability to operate multiple types of heavy equipment safely and efficiently
  • Knowledge of job site safety practices and equipment maintenance basics
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass pre‑employment and random drug and alcohol screenings
  • Physical ability to work long hours, lift up to 75 lbs, and work outdoors

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in utility, road, or site‑development projects
  • GPS machine control experience
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • CDL (Class A or B)

Work Schedule

  • Full‑time, year‑round work
  • Overtime and occasional weekends as project schedules require

Compensation & BenefitsPay Range:

$22.00 – $32.00 per hour, depending on experience and equipment proficiency
