Job DescriptionPosition Overview

Our organization is actively seeking a full-time anesthesiologist to enhance our expanding program. We are looking for an individual who can deliver exceptional anesthesia services to veterans undergoing a diverse range of surgical procedures. Our facility serves as the primary teaching affiliate for the University of Arizona's Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy, where medical students, residents, and fellows rotate. Therefore, the chosen candidate must qualify for an appointment with the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Arizona.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing direct patient care and supervision in various settings, including the Operating Room, PACU (ECT and cardioversion), GI suite, bronchoscopy suite, cath lab, IR, and other necessary locations.
  • Operating under a practice model that consists of approximately 95% supervision of CRNAs and residents, with 5% dedicated to personal cases.
  • Participating in a general pool, which requires experience with a broad spectrum of cases and regional anesthesia techniques.
  • Being available for at-home call, currently on a rotation of 1 in 9 to 1 in 10.
  • Note that the hospital does not handle obstetrics, pediatrics, or level 1 trauma cases.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time, permanent position with hours from Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with the option to work four 10-hour shifts as well.

Qualifications

  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Possess a Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent qualification from an accredited medical or osteopathic program.
  • Hold a current, unrestricted medical or surgical license in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
  • Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty program approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Must be board certified or board eligible in Anesthesiology.
  • Certification in BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association is required.

The Tucson VA Medical Center is a 295-bed facility that offers training, primary care, and specialized health services across various medical fields for eligible veterans. It serves as the flagship for our healthcare system, catering to over 170,000 veterans across eight counties in Southern Arizona, which includes the medical center in Tucson and seven Community Based Outpatient Clinics located in Casa Grande, Green Valley, Safford, Sierra Vista, Yuma, Northwest, and Southeast Tucson.
