Join a dynamic service and repair company specializing in pumps and rotating equipment as a Manual Machinist. You will work in the shop to recondition pumps brought in from the field, using blueprints and drawings to ensure precision and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Recondition split case, overhung, horizontal, and multistage pumps based on provided blueprints and drawings.
  • Perform line bores on pumps, drill, face, and assemble square plates, base plates, and internal pump parts including shafts, sleeves, rings, impellers, heads, and casings.
  • Handle part dimensions ranging from 4" to 7', working with materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and bronze.
  • Create serrated finishes for flanges, dial pins, and cut diameters on IDs.
  • Mount faces for bearing houses and create keyways.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience as a Manual Machinist.
  • Proficiency with lathe machining and vertical milling (Bridgeport machine).
  • Experience with line boring on pumps.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Familiarity with pump parts, manual machining, and use of tools like micrometers and calipers.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Vertical Turret Lathe (VTL) and Horizontal Boring Mill (HBM).
  • Extensive experience in machining pump parts to extremely tight tolerances.
  • Experience with turbine or compressor parts.

Work Environment

Work in a medium-sized, air-conditioned shop bustling with parts and pumps due to high business demand. The night shift team comprises 3 manual machinists, 8 pump mechanics, and 1 welder. Embrace a collaborative culture where employees tend to stay long-term due to the excellent environment. Expect a night shift schedule from Monday to Friday, 3:30 PM to 2:30 AM, and Saturday from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with two paid breaks and an unpaid lunch. Attire includes steel-toed boots, jeans, work shirt, and safety glasses. Enjoy a 10% night shift differential and opportunities for overtime, including double time on Sundays when required.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of 77075 Houston, Texas.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $44.00/hr.
