Job Title: Dispatcher

Job Description

This onsite Dispatcher role in San Marcos, CA offers the opportunity to join a growing residential HVAC operation and serve as the central hub for daily field activity. You will manage a live dispatch board, coordinate 13–20 field technicians across a wide service territory, and keep high-volume operations running smoothly in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This contract-to-hire position provides immediate responsibility, close collaboration with a supportive team, and a clear path to permanent employment for the right person.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the live dispatch board throughout the day and make real-time scheduling adjustments to keep operations running smoothly.
  • Route and assign field technicians based on geography, traffic patterns, time windows, and changing priorities across South San Diego County, East County, and the Temecula/Murrieta corridor.
  • Handle approximately 45–60 short operational calls per day from field technicians while maintaining focus on scheduling and routing.
  • Act as the central coordination point between a national call center, field technicians, and internal leadership to ensure clear, consistent communication.
  • Optimize routes to improve efficiency and adjust for delays, cancellations, add-on jobs, and other schedule changes as they occur.
  • Assign calls to technicians in a way that maintains continuous operational flow and maximizes technician productivity across the service territory.
  • Monitor field activity, identify potential issues or bottlenecks, and escalate concerns appropriately to leadership or other stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records in the dispatch system and field service management software while juggling multiple tasks.
  • Provide professional, low-drama communication and support to field technicians, call center staff, and internal teams throughout the day.
  • Work independently, make timely decisions under pressure, and ensure that customer commitments and service windows are met.

Essential Skills

  • 2–4+ years of dispatching experience in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Proven experience managing a live dispatch board with real-time scheduling adjustments.
  • Strong route optimization skills with a solid understanding of traffic-heavy service areas.
  • Ability to route and assign field technicians based on geography, traffic patterns, and time windows.
  • Comfort handling approximately 45–60 short operational calls per day from field technicians while managing competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate between multiple parties, including call centers, field staff, and internal leadership.
  • Calm, composed, and professional demeanor under pressure in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Independent decision-making ability with minimal need for constant direction or supervision.
  • Exceptional multitasking skills and the ability to manage constant schedule changes without losing operational flow.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when updating schedules, routes, and system records.
  • Professional, low-drama communication style with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Dispatching experience in HVAC, plumbing, or other home services or blue-collar industries.
  • Background in field service, logistics, or transportation dispatch.
  • Experience using ServiceTitan field service management software.
  • Willingness and ability to quickly learn ServiceTitan and other dispatch-related systems.
  • Experience working in a fast-growing or scaling operational environment.
  • Comfort working as the primary operational hub with high expectations and limited micromanagement.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Marcos, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
