As a Staff Accountant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records. You will be responsible for preparing and posting journal entries, maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts, and performing daily balancing of accounts. Additionally, you will assist with month-end and year-end close processes, support audits, and collaborate with other departments to ensure financial data integrity.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded accurately.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts on a regular basis.
- Perform daily balancing of accounts and ensure timely resolution of discrepancies.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of financial reports.
- Identify and correct accounting errors and inconsistencies.
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and explanations as needed.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure financial data integrity.
- Maintain compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
Essential Skills
- 2+ years of relevant work experience in G/L accounting.
- Experience with G/L accounting and posting journal entries.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or associated field preferred.
- Experience working daily with ERP systems.
- Experience in employee benefits, union, and/or other non-profit environment preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Work Environment
The position requires working 5 days a week in the office, starting at either 7 AM or 8 AM, and working for 8.5 hours including a 30-minute lunch break. The start time is flexible but should remain consistent each day. You will be part of a team consisting of three other staff accountants, one eligibility specialist, and be managed by the Accounting Manager. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lanham, Maryland.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $38.00/hr.
