Director of Behavioral Health - Westchester County
Job Description
The New York State Unified Court System (UCS) is seeking applicants for the position of Behavioral Health Administrator. The chosen applicant will be responsible for analyzing, developing, and implementing best practices and evidence-based strategies to improve the UCS’ response to a variety of behavioral health issues as they relate to the justice system. Issues expected to be addressed include, among others, civil commitments, fitness to stand trial, and judicial, attorney, and court staff wellness. The Behavioral Health Administrator will report directly to the UCS leadership team.
Duties will include, but will not be limited to:
- Developing and implementing a comprehensive strategic plan to implement the recommendations of the National Judicial Task Force to examine State Courts’ Response to mental illness recommendations;
- Representing the UCS on behavioral health and justice related committees and workgroups;
- Recommending behavioral health-related proposals, rules, and policies;
- Supporting the UCS’ Mental Health Task Force;
- Ensuring ongoing communication among agencies and branches of government on behavioral health issues;
- Keeping up to date with the latest trends in court management and behavioral health, both locally and nationally;
- Conducting ongoing outreach at national, state, and local conferences regarding behavioral health and justice trends and initiatives; and
- Collaborating with problem solving court administrators on mental and behavioral health matters.
This is an in-person assignment and may be based in Manhattan, Albany or Westchester Counties, although travel, both throughout New York and out-of-state, will be required.
Qualifications: Admission to the New York State Bar and 5 years of relevant legal experience; or a Master’s degree in Social Work or a related field from an accredited college or university and 5 years of relevant experience. Preference will be given to individuals with a demonstrated experience with behavioral health policy implementation and/or individuals with an understanding of federal and state laws and regulations related to behavioral health services and court systems.
Salary: $140,000 - $170,000 + $4,920 Location Pay
