JOB SUMMARY:
The Home Health Aide (HHA) provides essential in-home support and personal care services to elderly clients and individuals requiring assistance with daily living activities. The role emphasizes maintaining client dignity, comfort, and independence within their home environment. The HHA assists with routine personal care, light housekeeping, meal preparation, and companionship while observing and reporting any changes in client condition to the supervising nurse or care coordinator.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities. The Home Health Aide (HHA) reports directly to the residence where services are provided and to the designated Agency Supervisor responsible for scheduling, performance oversight, and adherence to the client’s service plan.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Provide personal care assistance including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and mobility support.
· Prepare and serve meals in accordance with dietary guidelines and client preferences.
· Perform light housekeeping tasks such as laundry, vacuuming, and maintaining a clean and safe living environment.
· Offer companionship, emotional support, and encouragement to promote client well-being.
· Assist clients with prescribed exercise routines or mobility aids as directed.
· Monitor and promptly report any changes in client health, mood, or behavior to the supervising nurse or care coordinator.
· Remind clients to take medications as directed (without administering medication).
· Document daily activities, services provided, and any observations in accordance with agency policy.
· Adhere to all health, safety, and confidentiality regulations, including infection control and privacy standards.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
· Compassionate and patient demeanor with strong interpersonal skills.
· Ability to maintain professionalism and discretion when working in private home environments.
· Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
· Excellent verbal communication and active listening skills.
· Ability to follow written and verbal care instructions accurately.
· Reliable, punctual, and adaptable to client schedules and household routines.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Current Home Health Aide (HHA) certification approved by the state of employment.
· Minimum of one year of experience in home care, elder care, or related field preferred.
· Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required for certain assignments.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be able to perform physical activities such as standing, walking, bending, lifting, and assisting clients with mobility.
· Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds as required for client transfers or repositioning.
· Must be able to work in clients’ home environments, which may vary in space, temperature, and accessibility.
· Visual and auditory ability to monitor client safety and respond to needs promptly.
COMPENSATION:
Compensation is commensurate with experience and certification level, typically ranging from $16.00 to $20.00 per hour. Additional benefits may include flexible scheduling, paid training, mileage reimbursement, and opportunities for career advancement within the agency.
