Job DescriptionDescription:Job Summary

The Surgery Scheduler uses clinical knowledge to schedule appropriate procedures/surgeries according to the provider’s orders.


The Details of the Job

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Schedules medical procedures, diagnostic and imaging tests, office visits and surgeries for patients with appropriate provider. Completes pre-procedure communications with patients.

· Effectively utilizes clinical knowledge when determining if appointment is consistent with the diagnosis/indications specified by the provider.

· Verifies insurance(s) coverage and benefit information for diagnostic imaging, special procedures, including surgery.

· Obtains authorizations for diagnostic imaging and procedures.

· Ensures patients have the proper medical clearance and pre-surgical testing as needed.

· Interfaces with staff to ensure all necessary equipment is prepared for procedures.

· Communicates notes or special instructions with patients and providers as required.

· Provides accurate, detailed information to patients regarding test preparations, time of patient’s scheduled arrival, and any other directional information needed; takes appropriate action in responding to questions from patients.

· Meet the Company’s expectations as described in the VSON Policies and Practices.

· Maintain confidentiality of Personal Identifiable Information (PII) in accordance with company Policies and State and Federal laws, including OSHA and HIPAA regulations.

· Perform job in accordance with all company safety practices.

· Other duties as assigned.

Remote Work is only available in CO, ID, IL, IN, SC, TX, FL, or OK


Requirements:What it Takes to Do the JobKnowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Working knowledge of medical office procedures. Includes the ability to access data on clinic information systems such as scheduling software, Electronic Medical Records software, and company e-mail.

· Skill in developing and maintaining relationships, and communicating calmly and clearly with patients, medical staff and the public.

· Knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation in order to interpret and follow oral and written instruction, keep detailed records, and sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems.

· Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make simple calculations.

  • Ability to work under pressure, with interruptions and deadlines.

Education, Experience and Certificates

· High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred.

· Previous experience working in an office environment required.

Minimum of 1 year work experience in orthopedic authorizations and scheduling highly preferred.
