Job DescriptionSample Management Technician IPosition Summary
The Sample Management Technician I is responsible for the receipt, tracking, documentation, labeling, storage, routing, and shipment of samples in a regulated laboratory environment. This role ensures samples are handled accurately and efficiently in accordance with Chain of Custody (COC) documentation, DOT regulations, and internal SOPs. The position also supports sample kit preparation, inventory management, waste disposal, and occasional courier duties as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Receive and unload incoming samples in accordance with DOT regulations.
- Verify sample receipts against Chain of Custody (COC) documentation.
- Identify, document, and resolve discrepancies; communicate issues as needed.
- Maintain timely communication and response to Project Manager inquiries.
- Log samples into LIMS to assign job and sample numbers for tracking.
- Distribute sample paperwork to appropriate Project Managers.
- Label samples accurately with job and sample identifiers.
- Route samples to the appropriate laboratory or walk‑in storage areas.
- Forward samples to other laboratories as required, following DOT requirements.
Additional Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare sample bottle kits for client use and return, following EPA and DOT guidelines.
- Perform sample disposal and hazardous waste handling in compliance with established procedures.
- Monitor and document cooler and freezer temperatures daily to ensure SOP compliance.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area to support efficient operations.
- Stock and manage inventory of supplies to ensure adequate availability.
- Perform sample splits and composites as required.
- Conduct courier duties, including sample pick‑up and delivery, while maintaining required certifications.
- Promote safety and conduct all operations in a safe and environmentally compliant manner.
Ancillary Duties
- Assist with maintenance of walk‑in coolers and freezers.
- Maintain company vehicles to support sample transportation needs.
- Ship empty coolers back to clients or network laboratories as required.
Basic Minimum Qualifications (BMQ)Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous production‑ or deadline‑driven work experience is helpful.
- Shipping/receiving experience preferred
- Data entry experience preferred
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Sacramento, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.
