General Description
The Assistant Controller plays a critical role in all financial and administrative aspects of the Company and helps to account for and coordinate the Companys overall financial reporting and planning. The individual in this role performs hands on day-to-day and monthly accounting work to meet the company's financial, business, contractual, and compliance needs on a timely basis. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills and can correctly and timely compile and analyze financial results, create detailed financial reports and forecasts. This person will have a pathway to the Controller role.
Financial responsibilities include managing the financial risks of the Company; providing direction and training of accounting personnel; interpreting financial results and reporting to management; managing the budgeting process; interfacing with outside CPA firms, legal counsel, and other consultants and contacts.
Operational responsibilities include communicating and training personnel in accounting functions of the company; maintaining regulatory permits and insurance required for both the retail food operations and also the food manufacturing plant; working closely with the CEO in addressing financial and business needs; cost/benefit analyses for capital expenditures; cash management; oversight over collection of problem accounts in the receivable process, preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, actual vs. budget, according to GAAP.
Essential Duties
Establish financial and cash flow forecasts/budgets, and results measurements
Analysis and reporting of the companys financial performance and risks
Recruit and supervise accounting department personnel
Perform internal audits and adherence to internal controls
Prepare timely and detailed financial reports on a monthly and annual basis
Oversee daily transactions, including accounts payable/receivable
Reconcile monthly general ledger, bank reconciliations
Prepare budget reports and forecasts
Perform month-end and year-end closing
Organize financial data into useable information and maintain updated records
Conduct monthly financial reviews with management team and advisors
Enhance accounting policies and procedures
Support the development and implementation of ERP initiatives and systems
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
- Must have industry experience in food/beverage manufacturing, a minimum 5 years
- Proven experience in described duties
- In-depth knowledge of corporate finance and accounting principles and best practices
- Solid knowledge of financial analysis and forecasting
- An analytical mind with a strategic ability
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
- BSc/BA or equivalent in accounting, finance or relevant field
- Problem-solving and decision-making aptitude
- Strong ethics, reliability, and confidentiality
- Must have excellent computer skills - MS Excel, QuickBooks or similar, manufacturing ERP system
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Required to stand, walk, and sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms.

Monday to Friday.
Hours may vary depending on the business's needs.
In-person position is based in our San Leandro Office.
