Job Specifications:

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalency (required), Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred)


Experience: 1-3 years of experience in project coordination, construction, or logistics, preferably in the Heavy Civil construction industry. Experience with route/road improvement or transportation logistics is a plus.

Objective:

The Associate Project Manager will assist in managing route improvement projects to ensure the timely and cost-effective transportation of oversize/overweight components via federal, state, and local road systems. This role supports the Project Manager/Estimator Route Improvements with daily operations, planning, and execution of route improvement projects. This role is designed to provide growth opportunities for individuals seeking to advance their career in the construction industry. The Associate Project Manager will work closely with the Project Manager/Estimator and will have the chance to take on increasing responsibilities over time.


In addition to project coordination responsibilities, the Associate Project Manager will utilize basic AutoCAD skills to support the development, review, and modification of route improvement and traffic control plans. The ideal candidate will be able to interpret engineering drawings, prepare simple layout revisions, and assist in producing accurate and clear design documentation for use in planning and field execution. While advanced drafting experience is not required, a foundational understanding of AutoCAD and a willingness to expand these skills is essential.


Job Environment:

This role will involve both office and fieldwork, including periodic out-of-state travel as required. The Associate Project Manager will work closely with the Project Manager/Estimator Route Improvements, customers, state and local agencies, and field personnel. This is a full-time, year-round position.

Relationships/Management:

This position will require interaction with all levels of company personnel, both union and non-union. The Associate Project Manager will support the Project Manager/Estimator in managing internal and external relationships, including customers, vendors, and regulatory agencies.

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Support:

  • Assist the Project Manager in managing route improvement projects from conception to completion, including permits, work scheduling, material sourcing, and equipment rental/purchase.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Participate in pre-construction meetings, assist in preparing budgets, and monitor project costs.
  • Help prepare reports on project progress, including scheduling updates and budget tracking.

CAD Support & Plan Development:

  • Assist in developing and updating route improvement drawings using AutoCAD, including layout adjustments, grading details, and right-of-way considerations.
  • Prepare and revise traffic control plans to support safe and efficient work zones, ensuring compliance with applicable local, state, and federal standards
  • Interpret engineering drawings and survey information to produce accurate plan sets that align with project requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager/Estimator to incorporate field feedback and design changes into updated CAD documents.

Vendor & Stakeholder Coordination:

  • Communicate regularly with vendors and suppliers to ensure tasks are completed and deliverables are met.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies to secure necessary permits and approvals.
  • Assist in fostering strong relationships with customers, state and local officials, and out-of-state vendors.

Field Support & Monitoring:

  • Visit project sites to support the Project Manager in monitoring project progress, adherence to safety protocols, and quality control.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and problem-solving during project execution to keep projects on track.
  • Help track project performance using industry best practices to identify areas for improvement.

Document Management & Compliance:

  • Assist with the management of project documentation, including contracts, permits, and engineering drawings.
  • Ensure compliance with state and local regulations, as well as company safety policies.
  • Assist in the close-out of projects, ensuring all reclamation, bonds, and documentation are completed.

Safety & Quality Assurance:

  • Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization, ensuring that all work is performed in compliance with safety standards.
  • Support quality control processes and ensure adherence to engineering and construction specifications.

Administrative Duties:

  • Assist with general project administration, including filing, reporting, and correspondence.
  • Manage scheduling for site visits, equipment mobilizations, and communication with stakeholders.
