JOB SUMMARY:
The Pastry Chef is responsible for leading and executing the pastry and dessert program at a new restaurant opening in Yountville. This role oversees all aspects of pastry production—from menu development and recipe testing to team training and daily service execution. The ideal candidate brings a balance of technical expertise, creativity, and organization, with a passion for seasonality and visual presentation. This is a rare opportunity to build a pastry identity from the ground up in one of Napa Valley’s most iconic culinary destinations.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain a small, seasonal dessert menu that reflects the restaurant’s culinary philosophy
  • Execute all pastry prep and production including doughs, custards, ice creams, cakes, and plated desserts
  • Plate and serve desserts during service while managing timing and presentation with the savory line
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient pastry station throughout prep and service
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef and Sous Chefs on menu pairings and cohesive plating styles
  • Track inventory, place orders, and manage pastry food costs within set targets
  • Ensure all ingredients are properly labeled, stored, and rotated according to health and safety guidelines
  • Clean and maintain pastry equipment, tools, and storage areas
  • Contribute to occasional specials, tasting menus, or off-menu requests as needed
  • Participate in staff tastings and front-of-house education to ensure a strong understanding of the dessert offerings

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 3 year of pastry experience in a restaurant, bakery, or hotel kitchen preferred
  • Solid foundation in pastry techniques, baking fundamentals, and dessert presentation
  • Passion for seasonal ingredients and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Valid California Food Handler Certification
