Pay: $20.00/Hr USD

SUMMARY

The Community Banking Intern is responsible for learning the fundamentals of retail banking, supporting day-to-day branch tasks and activities, and completion of ad-hoc projects.

Training is conducted within a mentorship framework, necessitating frequent interaction with various departments to include Retail Banking, Commercial Lending, Lending Operations, Electronic Banking, Home Office Operations and participate in SIU activities.

Applicants must be available for an 8-week minimum paid internship program. This is a part-time role (less than 30 hours per week), with flexible scheduling to accommodate class schedules.

All employees are expected to protect the information and assets of the organization through heightened awareness of information security, cybersecurity, and risk management best practices, as well as complying with all applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Shadow and gain an understanding of banking operations at various levels of the branch and organization, such as Credit Administration, Loan Operations, and support teams.
  • Work along-side Branch Managers and Relationship Banking teams, developing essential skills in daily operations, customer service, transactions, and compliance.
  • Contribute to multiple special projects, providing strong research, attending and participating in meetings and project tracking, and reporting ongoing progress to the Chief Banking Officer.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to understand performance metrics, operational challenges, and customer engagement strategies.
  • Attend client meetings and community outreach events to gain insight into relationship management, local economic impact, and brand awareness.
  • Prepare summaries, reports, and presentations to share learnings and recommendations with senior leadership
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements throughout the internship.
  • Assume responsibility for special projects as assigned.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current enrollment toward a degree in Finance or a related field required.
  • Minimum Junior or beyond collegiate experience required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all internship functions.
  • Basic understanding of financial principles, banking terminology, and economic concepts.
  • Communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers at all levels.
  • A positive and proactive approach to work, demonstrating enthusiasm, adaptability, and the ability to maintain composure and professionalism in stressful or adverse conditions.
  • Research and critical-thinking abilities, with skill to successfully organize work and manage time.
  • Proficient computer literacy, including comfort with Microsoft systems and Office Suite.
  • Intermediate typing skills to meet the needs of this position.
  • Current driver’s license and reliable transportation with appropriate insurance coverage; additionally, the ability to drive occasionally in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • The ability to work with minimal or no supervision.

  • Experience working in an office environment preferred.
